University of Pittsburgh graduate student Candace Burgess presented her exhibit, "I Too Play: Unveiling the History of Black Classical Musicians in Pittsburgh" at the PSO performance 'Lift Every Voice' on Saturday, February 3rd.
The Department of Music promotes an integrated approach to the study of music grounded in composition/theory, ethnomusicology, jazz studies, and musicology. Our innovative and dynamic curriculum enables students to explore music in the broadest terms possible through artistic creative activity, performance, and scholarship.
Pitt Musicology PhD candidate Miranda Bartira Tagliari Sousa is a recipient of the 2023 Humanities Center Summer Research Fellowship in support of work on a project named "Concert Music in the “Tropical Paris:” Decolonial Perspectives on Practices of Social Difference in Rio de Janeiro’s Belle Époque (1880-1920)," which examines the relationships between music, race, gender and social exclusion in post-colonial Rio de Janeiro.
Pitt Musicology student Larissa A. Irizarry will be awarded the degree of PhD in Musicology on April 30th, 2022.
