Amy Williams Awarded Koussevitzky Commission

Congratulations to Amy Williams, who has been awarded a commission from the Koussevitsky Foundation to create a new work for soprano Tony Arnold and JACK Quartet. The highly prestigious Koussevitzky commissioning program facilitates new works primarily for composers who have demonstrated considerable merit through their works and for orchestras and chamber groups that have a record of excellence in the performance of contemporary music.

Williams and the JACK Quartet combined forces for the first time on Williams’ Richter Textures fin 2011, and most recently for a multimedia realization of her Cineshape series with video artist Aaron Henderson. Williams and Arnold haven’t worked together before, but crossed paths at Northwestern when Williams was on the faculty and Arnold was pursuing a graduate degree in conducting. The collaboration between these two new music trailblazers promises to be a very exciting one.

Williams expects the new work, which she describes as her first foray into vocal music, to be completed in 2018.
