Professor of Music, Emeritus Bell Yung was awarded an honorary doctorate from Chinese University of Hong Kong on December 6, 2012 as part of CUHK’s 72nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees. Yung’s specific degree is Doctor of Literature, honoris causa and he was one of three conferees. CUHK honored Yung and the other conferess,
“…in recognition of their outstanding contributions in their respective areas of achievement to educational, academic and cultural progress, the promotion of community welfare, and the development of the University.”
Bell Yung retired from the University of Pittsburgh in April of 2012 where he served as Professor of Music. He is recognized as one of the foremost authorities in East Asian music and directed Pitt’s Asian Studies Program 2002–06.
