IonSound Project, Department of Music Ensemble in Residence, performs new works by Pitt Graduate Composers. Featuring works by Marco Giusto, Laura Schwartz, Xinyang Wang, Jason Belcher, Devon Tipp, and Ryan McMasters.

November 13, 2016 - 7:00pm

IonSound Project announces their 2016-17 season titled Legend and Legacy: A Mingling of Storytelling and Music. The first concert, Fiction, is right around the corner on Sunday, November 13, 7 p.m. at University of Pittsburgh's Bellefield Hall Auditorium.  This program will showcase Eric Moe's Superhero, along with works by Karol Szymanowski and Thea Musgrave.

March 20, 2016 - 7:00pm

"Happy Hour!" serves as the culmination of a three part collaboration between IonSound Project and several local gastro hot spots in Pittsburgh. The final concert in March brings the ensemble back to their home in Bellefield Hall with a program featuring music by Zahab, Mompou, Szymanowski and Oriana Webb.

March 29, 2015 - 7:00pm

IonSound Project and our graduate composers join forces to perform a concert of new works. The program will include music by Nizan Leibovich, Lu Han Li, John Petrucelli, Brian Riodan, and Jeff Weston. The program features sounds ranging from classic chamber music combinations (like flute and piano) to ensembles combining pipa (a Chinese plucked instrument similar to a lute) and laptop.

March 15, 2015 - 7:00pm

IonSound Project presents Bridges and Byways, the second concert in our From Note to Finish series.  This program will examine later works by the composers presented on our fall concert including Max Bruch, Erwin Schulhoff, Steve Reich, and Lee Hyla.  Also on the program, three world premieres by Pittsburgh composers Jonghee Kang, Lenny Young, and Roger Zahab, all commissioned by IonS

IonSound delves into the compositional process this season presenting three concerts packed with premieres. The first offering, Roots and Routes, is right around the corner on Sunday November 16, at 7:00 pm. This program features early and/or pivotal works by composers such as Lee Hyla, Steve Reich, Erwin Schulhoff, and Max Bruch.

IonSound Project’s spring residency concert at Pitt will include a wide array of music from Arvo Pärt’s meditative Spiegel im Spiegel to the pop sensibilities of Telephone Book by Michael Torke. The program also includes Berio’s virtuosic Sequenza VIII for solo violin, John Mackey’s Breakdown Tango, and Jonathan Kolm’s Trio for Clarinet, Cello, Piano.
