Jazz Seminar and Concert

Music at Pitt is starting November off in a big way and local media have taken notice. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published previews of the Jazz Seminar and Concert and Sweeney Todd, while the City Paper conducted extensive interviews with Jan and Amy Williams in anticipation of the Morton Feldman Symposium and Mini-Festival.

Music department graduate students Yuko Eguchi, Elizabeth Hoover, and Ben Pachter will participate in Pitt's annual Grad Expo which will take place at the William Pitt Union on March 22. The Grad Expo is day-long event designed to give grad students experience in presenting their research and providing them with much needed feedback. Each Paper Session will address broad themes in an interdisciplinary way.

The next event is at Heinz Chapel on Thursday, November 1 at 7 p.m. Titled "Inside the Music Business," it features Paul Silverthorn of New Jersey Public Television and Radio. Silverthorn is a former manager for Grover Washington Junior.
A dynamic group of international jazz musicians will convene on the Pitt campus for the 37th annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, the longest-running event of its kind in the country. From Oct. 30 through Nov. 3, students, jazz enthusiasts, and the general public will gather for free evening lectures on the business and history of jazz, free lectures and demonstrations by guest musicians, miniclinics for students in area schools, and demonstrations at several community venues. The week of seminars will culminate with the annual concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 in Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.
