A Mellon Fellow Abroad

J. S. Kofi Gbolonyo is an Andrew Mellon Pre-doctoral Fellow and a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology. As part of his Mellon Fellowship, Kofi has been traveling internationally to research his dissertation topic, and along the way, giving lectures and workshops. His travels have taken him to West Africa, North America, and several Asian countries (including China, Taiwan, and Thailand). Several international schools and organizations, including Hong Kong International School (HKIS), East Asian Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS), and Taipei American School have invited Kofi to give workshops. In October, he conducted a two-day, International Workshop at the Hong Kong International School. Sponsored by EARCOS, the workshop explored “African Music in Multicultural Classrooms: Orff-Afrique—Traditional African, Orff-Schulwerk, and Multicultural Approaches" and drew participants from 14 countries. HKIS has posted an extensive gallery of Kofi's visit here.
