Music from China Premieres New Moe Work

If you're going to be near New York City on Friday, Nov. 21, you will want to hear Music from China premiere a new piece by Eric Moe. A Panoramic Guide to Glacier Travel for pipa, erhu, cello was inspired by Chinese landscape scrolls which give the viewer the sensation of taking a journey through a mountainous landscape. This work is similarly episodic yet connected, and suggestive of various listener-constructed narratives. About the piece Moe says, “Unlike actual glacier travel, which is risky and requires special equipment, no specialized knowledge is required for listening to the piece.”

Moe’s composition was commissioned by Music from China as part of the ensemble’s 30th Anniversary Celebration. The progam also includes music by Chen Yi, Huang Ruo, and Wang Guowei. The concert takes place at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall at 8 p.m. on November 21.
