200 women from six different choirs representing five area universities will descend on the University of Pittsburgh campus for a performance at Bellefield Hall Auditorium. Billed as “Women in Song,” the program will feature the Chatham College Choir, Pappert Women’s Chorale (from Duquesne University), Pitt’s Women’s Choral Ensemble, Seton Hill University’s Women’s Chorale, and from Westminster College, the Women’s Chorus and Chamber Ensemble. The program will include classical repertoire by Brahms, Poulenc, Haydn, and Debussy, along with more recent works by Randall Thompson and John Rutter among others. The program was organized by Lorraine Milovac, director of Pitt’s Women’s Choral Ensemble, in an effort to highlight not only the breadth of repertoire for women’s voices, but the vitality of women’s choral tradition in the area.
The concert takes place at Bellefield Hall Auditorium on Sunday, November 4 at 3 p.m. General admission is $5. All students will be admitted to the concert for free. Tickets will be available at the door.
Founded in 1927, the University of Pittsburgh Women's Choral Ensemble is open to all women of the University community, including undergraduates, graduate students, and staff. The group brings together women of all disciplines, and performs repertory ranging from traditional sacred and secular classics to international folk songs, popular music, and show tunes. Auditions are held in the fall of each year.
