Music on the Edge: JACK Quartet

Date

March 1, 2014 - 8:00pm

Copresented by The Andy Warhol Museum

"...remarkably concentrated performances assuring that future JACK events will be drop-everything-and-go occasions."
The Philadelphia Enquirer

For their much-anticipated return to Pittsburgh, JACK Quartet will perform a concert featuring titans of contemporary music. The program includes John Zorn’s The Dead Man, Morton Feldman’s Structures, and string quartets by Witold Lutoslawski and Hans Abrahamsen.

The JACK Quartet electrifies audiences worldwide with "explosive virtuosity" (The Boston Globe) and "viscerally exciting performances" (The New York Times). David Patrick Stearns (The Philadelphia Inquirer) proclaimed their performance as being "among the most stimulating new-music concerts of my experience." The Washington Post commented, "The string quartet may be a 250-year-old contraption, but young, brilliant groups like the JACK Quartet are keeping it thrillingly vital." Alex Ross (The New Yorker) hailed their performance of Iannis Xenakis' complete string quartets as being "exceptional" and "beautifully harsh," and Mark Swed (Los Angeles Times) called their sold-out performances of Georg Friedrich Haas' String Quartet No. 3 "mind-blowingly good."

Tickets are available through the University of Pitttsburgh Stages Box Office, by calling 412-624-7529, or visiting music.pitt.edu/tickets.
