The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette selected the 44th Annual Jazz Seminar Concert as one of the City’s top-ten Jazz events of the 2014. Led by Director of Jazz Studies Geri Allen, the all-star ensemble dazzled a packed house and critics as well. According to the P-G,
"This was dominated by the ladies, with participation from the entire ACS Trio -- pianist Geri Allen, drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and bassist Esperanza Spaulding. The Howard University vocal ensemble Afro Blue stole the show at the end."
Don't miss this indepth look at Geri Allen and the 44th Annual Jazz Seminar in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The final concert is tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at Carnegie Music Hall. (Please note: After 5 p.m. on October 31, tickets will only be available at the door the night of the concert.)
An exciting lineup is in place for the 44th annual University of Pittsburgh Jazz Seminar and Concert, the longest-running event of its kind in the United States. Pitt Jazz Week—which comprises free on-campus seminars, community venue performances, and the Nov. 1 concert at Carnegie Music Hall—will run from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, 2014.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published an extensive profile of PhD candidate Nathan Frink and his transcription and performance of music by Ornette Coleman. The performance of Coleman's music (happening tonight) is an outgrowth of Frink's 2012 MA thesis. Frink described the process of his research for PG writer Manny Theiner.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ranked this year's Jazz Seminar Concert one of the year's best jazz events in its annual "Best of…" issue. According to the P-G,
"…pianist Geri Allen…wasted no time in putting her stamp on the annual event, bringing in vocalist Carmen Lundy and tap dancer Brinae Ali."
Congratulations to Geri Allen and all the performers!
