Men's Glee Club Celebrates 120th Anniversary

On April 16 and 17, the Pitt Men’s Glee Club will celebrate its 120th anniversary with a concert and special events for Glee Club alumni. The weekend celebration will kick off with an anniversary dinner on Friday, and continue on Saturday with a campus tour and alumni reunion meet-and-greet. The festivities culminate on Saturday night with the Glee Club’s annual spring concert, which will include an alumni sing-along.

The April 17 Glee Club concert is a preview of the club’s upcoming tour of Italy and Croatia and features music by Monteverdi, Hummel, Casals, Mendelssohn, Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael, and Queen. The concert takes place at First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh (159 N. Bellefield Avenue) at 8 p.m. Tickets are available in advance through ProArts Tickets by visiting www.proartstickets.org or calling 412-394-3353. Tickets in advance are $8.50 for general admission and $5 for non-Pitt students and seniors. Tickets at the door are $15 and $10. Pitt students are admitted free with valid Pitt ID.

The Men's Glee Club, founded in 1890, is the oldest non-athletic extracurricular activity on campus. Directed by Richard Teaster, the club has enjoyed successful tours throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. They have been musical guests at two World's Fairs, and continue to be featured in various television and radio appearances, including a spot on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns. The club has been recorded for radio broadcast locally by WWWS-FM and WQED-FM, and their recent all-Liszt concert was featured as part of the PNC Performance in Pittsburgh Series.
