Miranda Sousa's Humanities Center Fellowship

Pitt Musicology PhD candidate Miranda Bartira Tagliari Sousa is a recipient of the 2023 Humanities Center Summer Research Fellowship in support of work on a project named "Concert Music in the “Tropical Paris:” Decolonial Perspectives on Practices of Social Difference in Rio de Janeiro’s Belle Époque (1880-1920)," which examines the relationships between music, race, gender and social exclusion in post-colonial Rio de Janeiro. In addition to a stipend for research, the fellowship provides opportunities to present and discuss work for the Humanities Center's symposia and colloquium. 

Miranda has also been selected to give a lecture at the Library of Congress as part of the AMS/LOC Lecture series during the upcoming season.
