  • Double Bass / Electric Bass

Ava Lintz (double bass and electric bass) currently enjoys a diverse career in Pittsburgh where she has spent the last several years working with the city’s finest.

A few of her favorite recent performances include the annual Jazz on the River Boat Ride hosted by Mr. Roger Humphries in summer 2025 where Sean Jones performed as a featured guest, as well as playing with Mr. Humphries at the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues festival that same summer. During the past year she has been leading her own groups at local venues in the Pittsburgh area including the Greer Cabaret Theater and Con Alma. She also plays frequently in groups led by drummer David Throckmorton and considers him to be one of her biggest influences in the music.

She has performed professionally in many of the region's orchestras; she was previously Assistant Principal Bass in the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and has subbed in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Canton Symphony Orchestra, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, and Butler County Symphony Orchestra. She was awarded a full tuition graduate assistantship to complete her M.M. in orchestral double bass performance at Carnegie Mellon University with Micah Howard and Peter Guild of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

She was awarded music and academic scholarships to complete her B.M. in orchestral double bass performance with Micah Howard at Duquesne University and studied jazz bass with Jeff Mangone while she was a student there.  During her undergraduate years at Duquesne, she taught bass at Center of Life in Hazelwood; received the Pittsburgh Jazz Society/BNY Mellon Jazz Scholarship, worked in the music school office, and performed professionally in regional orchestras, jazz groups, and wedding/event bands around the city.

She is a former member of Pittsburgh-based soul band The Commonheart;  she recorded on the band's album "Grown" and performed with the band at official SXSW showcases and at Stage AE opening for Gary Clark.

She attended Chatham University before transferring to Duquesne; receiving a full tuition academic scholarship there allowed her to move to Pittsburgh from her hometown of Morgantown, WV. While she was a student at Chatham, she studied double bass with Betsy Heston of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and played in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra.

She began her professional career in high school, playing bass for the West Virginia Public Theater musicals in the pit orchestra as well as with her mom's piano trio with her brother on drums. She is thankful to have grown up in a family of musicians who instilled in her a lifelong passion for the music.
