Jefferson Lin

  • Graduate Student, Musicology

I am Jefferson Lin (he/they), currently a PhD student in the Musicology program at the University of Pittsburgh. My broad research interests in music studies include theorizations of musical production and construction from scientific, sociological, and philosophical angles. More specifically, I am interested in Western fan practices of adapting music from Japanese popular media such as anime. Outside of music studies, I am particularly interested in the project of interdisciplinary critique advanced by the early Frankfurt School and its radical readers, as well as comparative history of speculative philosophies including pre-Socratic Greek philosophy and philosophical Sufism. Before Pitt, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
