Born into a family of musicians, pianist Nikolai Choubine brings to Pitt a lifelong love for piano. He earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Gnesin Academy of Music in Moscow and a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Nikolai Choubine enjoys a dynamic performance career as a solo and collaborative artist, which has taken him across the United States, Canada, and Europe. He is a prize-winner at several international piano competitions and a recipient of numerous awards including a Russian and East European Institute Mellon Endowment Fellowship and has been named a Sorabji performer by the Sorabji Archive in England.

Dr. Choubine is a deeply committed teacher of music. He has enjoyed teaching as a Lecturer in Piano at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN, and as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. As a master clinician, Dr. Choubine has given masterclasses at the UNESCO Associated School for Children, the University of Lethbridge, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Regina in Canada among others.
